drawing

i'm trying to stay optimistic about returning to college to complete my art degree.
my first semester back ends in a month
i dropped out seven or eight years ago with only a year of school left
since then my life has been very busy, which might be the cause of my outlook on art school
unfortunately i feel surrounded by students that couldn't care less
and burnt out professors
that have been teaching too long
at a program that is beaten, bruised, and terribly outdated
a university art program striving for pure mediocrity

i guess going back to school is slightly redundant at this point, but it's a family thing

stories

my father has this epic tale of his high school graduation.
it is one small day in one small town
but somehow everything in the world happened that day

it needs to be his next novel and possibly my next film

the trouble with being young

this will be my third solo show since i sold kayo gallery.
it always feels wonderfully strange to build these shows
for a space i know so well

spring break

more figure drawings from school.
it's nice to be drawing from life again
even though it tests my patience

now a solid week of studio time for spring break
show coming up in a month

only once

sometimes you find yourself in a situation that you just stumbled across.
my studio, that i share with cara, happens to be in an old elementary school
it's mostly abandoned all except a wonderful youth art program tucked in one corner

this may only happen once

a nearby conversation

i have a german woman in my figure structure class.
she told me she comes from a small village
on the polish border of germany
during the war, her village was taken over
now, it nearly doesn't exist

berlin i miss you
